Koh Phangan is almost as large as Koh Samui island and is only a half hour boat ride from it. However the history of these two islands was quite different since the beginning because Koh Phangan, a peaceful and quiet island of fishermen, has been influenced by the habit of a group of hippies who lived on Koh Samui and who once decided to sail there to celebrate the full moon. Its uncontaminated nature, its beaches and the cheerful mood of Koh Phangan inhabitants increased the fame of the “Full Moon Party” which has grown into one of the most famous and one of the biggest beach parties in the World.

Until early 2000s the touristic scenario of Koh Phangan was mainly linked to the Full Moon party and to the further parties that popped up to respond to the needs of the young people who constantly arrived on the island charmed by its fame of festive and tropical paradise. This implied that the rest of the island which was not reached by the full moon party influence remained much less developed even though its touristic potential was enormous. 

Nowadays the island is constantly growing but it keeps its hippy mood as well as the charm of its mostly uncontaminated nature.
